Week 3 – ‘Potential’ showing consistency

Business as usual in the Potential fund this week with another period of steep growth. The fund finished the week another £93 pounds up, equivalent to around 2.6%.

One change this week. Out went Zagadou for a profit of around 11%. Hummels signing for Dortmund leaves them with more defenders than they need and Zagadou seems to be the least favoured of the bunch. Although there are some Arsenal rumours, I decided to cut and run as my money can probably work better elsewhere.

This money went straight into Arsenal-reject, Ismael Bennacer, who is currently ripping things up at AFCON with Algeria. Although he’s not posting huge PB scores yet, he’s got the technique and the stats that suggests this could improve in the future. He completed more successful dribbles than any other Serie A player last season and is almost certain to leave relegated Empoli during the summer, with potential suitors including Lyon, Napoli, Fiorentina, Roma and Genoa.

In terms of the rest of the fund, stand-out performers included Bruno Fernandes, Embalo, Beyer and Hudson-Odoi. I expect Embalo to get another boost when the Under 19s Euros kick off in mid-July, as he’s likely to be the star of the Portugal team.

There were some slight dips on Tonali, Pinamonti and Eric Garcia but all remained in profit overall. Pinamonti is an interesting one, with his transfer to Genoa all but confirmed – I suspect traders are waiting to see how he fits into his new team.

Ampadu also saw a slight dip, with the news that Aston Villa want him on a season-long loan. In truth, this could be a good move if it gets him some minutes but I took the opportunity to de-risk a little, selling on 30 futures and keeping 120.

You can see the updated profit and loss in full on the Potential assets page.
