Performance holds – week 2 update

A huge week for my performance holds saw the fund increase in value by £131.51 – nearly 4%.

Stand out performers were Griezmann, largely due to the ongoing transfer rumours, and Thiago Alcantara, as traders continue to pile into well known PB holds ahead of the new season. Also doing well were Khazri and Xhaka for the same reason.

De Jong and Van Dijk continued to slide – perhaps I caught these at peak price? I’ve no hestiation that Van Dijk will catch a rise before the new season but De Jong was always looking a risky hold as so much depends on how he starts the season at his new club. Time will tell…

I decided to jump onto Veretout with rumours of a transfer to Roma (or AC Milan, or Napoli etc…). He’s a solid performance hold anyway, averaging a PB score of 96 last season and three scores over 175 – not bad considering he was playing for a team that struggled to avoid relegation. With all that, I felt he looked seriously undervalued at only 85p.

To do that, I had to throw someone else overboard… tough choice but I decided to say goodbye to Laporte. He’s a good hold but I’m concerned his price is reaching the ceiling now for a defender and with rumours about City potentially adding to their defensive assets, he seemed the best one to back out of at this point. He was still in demand so sold quickly to market and his final yield for me was £34.13, or roughly 20%.

The fund is now sitting at a profit of £168.08, and with Veretout significantly cheaper than Laporte, I’ve also got a little bit left in the bank to take advantage of any future opportunities.
