I’ve added 24 players to the initial ‘potential fund’. This is the fund that generated the most suggestions on twitter as the ‘youth trend’ on FI shows no signs of slowing down.
And so far, it seems to be the best place to put your money, with the fund seeing a rise of around 1.8% since these players were added.
There are some reasonably well known names in this fund, including players who have already begun to prove themselves at an international level like Kang-In, Cunha, Pinamonti, Cuisance, Niane and Gouiri. All of these players have good sentiment towards them at the moment and their prices are on an upward curve. The challenge might be knowing when to get off.
There are also a number of youth players waiting for a good run in the senior team, like Eric Garcia, Ampadu, Barrow, Conor Gallagher and Mollejo. These have all shown good potential but their prices are suppressed while they wait to get enough minutes under their belt.
Todibo is a fairly new face at Barcelona with two good matches under his belt but starting to look like he might be shipped out to make room for De Ligt. Either way, he has potential.
Maier, Beyer, Zagadou, Oscar Rodriguez, Diawara and Sangare are not short of minutes on the pitch and all look to be heading for either a breakthrough season at their club or possibly a move elsewhere. Diawara in particular doesn’t seem destined to stay at Napoli and Spurs have been circling around him for some time.
Tonali is heading up to Serie A with Brescia next season, is touted as the next wonderkid, compared to Pirlo, and has the advantage of being a bit of a pin-up too, which has to be good for his long-term price!
I’ve also included Hudson-Odoi and Calvert-Lewin, as two young players who were sitting out the end of the season injured. Hudson-Odoi should see a price spike before he returns and we’re already seeing Calvert-Lewin’s price increase in the run up to the Under-21s.
A couple of wildcards in here – I’ve picked Bruno Fernandes with the belief he’ll move to an EPL club this summer. If he does, and can maintain his form, he should be worth at least £3 in my eyes. If he doesn’t, I’d expect his price to fall below £2 – so a bit of a risk there.
Also Umaro Embalo – destined to be the next big thing coming off the Benfica youth production line.
Leon Bailey is one that just scraped into the fund. He hasn’t quite cut it as a ‘performance’ player yet and had a pretty average season last year but I still feel there’s the potential for him to explode at some point. He also seems destined for a move to the EPL at some stage in the future.
You can view the full list of players and their loss/gain so far on the Potential assets page – let me know if you think I’ve picked well or if I’ve missed any gems.
